Plan

When I first starting this project, I decided to put it under the category UNSDG goal 'Life on Land'. I felt quite excited, because educating the public on animal care was something that I wanted to do. To put the cherry on the cake, I was going to be working with the cat shelter, so I knew that my brochures would help to educate visitors of their shelter.

In the planning stage, I actually struggled quite a lot, because I'm new to design, and having to learn and familiarize myself with the design terms and theories was not something I had prior experience with. My struggles were made worse when I decided to stop working with the Cat shelter. I really felt very discouraged when we stopped collaborating, and I felt that all the work I had been doing so far was all for nothing. But that was my first lesson. I learnt to be resilient, and not to give up when I'm faced with challenges.

Perform

In the perform stage, I did my research for the information needed for my brochures. This taught me digital and Information literacy, as I had to go online to search for credible sources of information, and I had to make sure I could paraphrase the information I learnt, to prevent plagiarism. This is a skill that I had to make use of before, in my other projects. However, what set GL apart from my other projects is that for my other projects, I usually only make use of scholarly articles from science direct, since I'm required to write experimental reports. GL made me find credible sources of information outside of science journals, and this is a skill that will definitely be useful for the future.

Monitor

During the monitor stage, it was when I had to do a presentation to the year 1 students and do my exhibition. I'm a very shy and introverted girl by nature, and it is unlike me to want to showcase my work. As such, having the exhibition and having to approach passersby to talk to them was definitely that was a step out of my comfort zone. I also had to collaborate with Myra and Averyl, as I was joining in their exhibition. This taught me the importance of being a communicative and collaborative learner, as I needed to ensure that we communicated the details accurately to ensure that nothing was missed out. Thankfully, we didn't have any miscommunications, which helped in making the exhibition run smoothly.

Reflect

Overall, I think another very important skill GL has taught me is to be a responsible and self directed learner. The tutorial slots are arranged between me and my facilitator, so I needed to be responsible to come for tutorials too, since it isn't reflected in my timetable. I also had to be self directed in the sense that my facilitator was only there to guide me and to make sure I don't stray too far away from my proposal and original timeline. Otherwise, I had to be independent in doing my research and completing my drafts on time.
